Standards for Excellence is a nationally accredited curriculum that teaches best practices for nonprofit management, governance, and legal compliance. The foundation of the Standards for Excellence® program is the published Standards for Excellence®: An Ethics and Accountability Code for the Nonprofit Sector. It identifies 6 major areas of nonprofit governance and management which contain 27 different topic areas. Each topic area includes specific benchmarks and measures that provide a structured approach to building capacity, accountability, and sustainability in your organization.
In the summer of 2015, the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits released Standards for Excellence 2.0. The new curriculum includes expanded and enhanced benchmarks, including 78 benchmarks for best practices; new sample policies in social media and information technologies all nonprofits need to know; and improved information on outcome based measurements and logic models to prove mission impact.

Each organization taking Standards for the first time is encouraged to send two people to each of the four trainings, preferably the organization’s Executive Director and the Board Chair. While all organizations are encouraged to send two participants to the entire, four-part series, Standards for Excellence scholarship recipients must send two representatives to each session in order to graduate.

Ready to raise the level of excellence? The Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits now offers the Standards for Excellence Accreditation and Recognition program.
Research indicates that the accreditation process is associated with an increase in direct public support and that stakeholders will react positively to organizations receiving the Standards for Excellence accreditation by allocating more resources to the nonprofit.
