Described by many of her clients as “thought provoking” and “challenging,” Janetta Cravens has been helping nonprofit leaders and executives communicate the big-picture about themselves and their organizations for more than 20 years. She is a BoardSource certified trained consultant in board governance, and a licensed consultant with the Standards for Excellence program, the nation’s leading resource in nonprofit best practices. She is also a member of the Standards for Excellence Council for the national Standards for Excellence Institute.
By profession, Janetta is an executive coach, organizational developer, ordained minister, and community organizer who built her career working at the intersection of social justice and community change. She has managed and supervised efforts in poverty elimination, anti-racism initiatives, inter-religious community impact actions, and advocacy efforts for LGBTQ and their allies. She has worked with nonprofit organizations and civic groups of all sizes, including national and international organizations, and coached hundreds of nonprofit leaders in setting the goals and strategies to further their mission.
In practice she is a mentor, leader, instructor, and analyst that believes in every person and organization with whom she works. She is gifted at identifying, training, coaching, and equipping leaders and specializes in understanding complex networks and identifying immanent workflows and strategies within the system. She has helped hundreds of executives and volunteers lead highly successful organizations. Her work around diversity, equity, inclusion, and inter-religious awareness has helped hundreds of nonprofit leaders become more effective in reaching their clients and expanding their mission.
As the Vice President of Programs for the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits, she oversees the consulting, professional development, and membership programs the Center offers to the 18,000 nonprofits throughout the state. She is a frequent consultant, speaker, and instructor for nonprofit professionals and boards of directors on topics of leadership and organizational development, fundraising and grant writing, nonprofit ethics and board governance, diversity and inclusion, performance management, and strategic and action planning.
She holds a post-graduate fellowship in Organizational Design and Development from the Hollifield Leadership Institute in North Carolina, a Masters of Ecumenical Theology from the University of Geneva, Geneva Switzerland, a Masters of Divinity from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, and a Bachelors of Music from Phillips University, Enid, Oklahoma. These wide-ranging efforts reflect Janetta’s commitment to strengthening community, spirited leadership, and generous heart. A native of Oklahoma, Janetta is energized to be back in her home state.
