The Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits (OKCNP) will host the 2020 Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence (ONE) Awards on Friday, April 24, 2020, in Tulsa, Okla. In the weeks leading up to the event, we are spotlighting the 21 finalists in seven categories.

Oklahoma Council on Economic Education (OCEE), located in Edmond, Okla., is one of the three finalist in the Education category.

OCEE was established in 1954 as an affiliate with the Council on Economic Education, “a national network of state councils and university-based centers,” according to their website. OCEE’s university partnership is with the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO).

“There are so many people doing great work with OCEE and I am thrilled that we are being recognized in this way,” said Jennifer Walls, board chair, OCEE. “Financial literacy is a life skill and our goal is to reach and teach every child in Oklahoma.”

According to the OCEE website, their mission is to train pre-kindergarten through twelfth-grade (Pk-12) teachers on incorporating principles of economics and personal finance into their curriculum. This prepares young people for “real life” when they “grow up and become part of the market place. Students will understand economics and know how to manage their financial resources.”

“We work tirelessly to equip Pk-12 students with the tools and knowledge of personal finance and economics so they can make better decisions for themselves, their families and their communities, and when this happens, we all win,” said Amy Lee, executive director, OCEE.

The training is available for public and independent Oklahoma schools. OCEE works to make financial literacy fun by partnering with local business and individuals, such as COOP Ale Works for Economics By The Pint and Moneymoves with Jabee.

In addition, OCEE offers workshops for teachers targeted by the instructor’s grade level. Their programs include: Stock Market Game, Drawing for Dollars, Economics Challenge, Personal Finance Challenge and more.
