The Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits (OKCNP) will host the 2020 Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence (ONE) Awards on Friday, April 24, 2020, in Tulsa, Okla. In the weeks leading up to the event, we are spotlighting the 21 finalists in seven categories.
NorthCare serves families in 47 counties across central and western Okla., and is one of three finalists in the Health category.
“I’m tickled that NorthCare is a finalist for this year’s One Award,” said Randy Tate, CEO, NorthCare. “Our staff do amazing work every day and this is a great opportunity to highlight their efforts. NorthCare provides pathways of hope for our clients through our outstanding programs and services. With support from community partners, we empower consumers to achieve their most successful lives.”
According to their website, NorthCare is a certified Community Mental Health Center with the mission of “strengthening communities by improving health and safety, one family at a time.” They work with adults living with severe mental illness and children with severe emotional disturbances. They also provide family preservation services.
NorthCare offers 24 hour crisis intervention, same-day walk-in appointments, case management, individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, peer support groups, wellness classes, parenting classes and trauma recovery groups.
“NorthCare has been a lifesaver as we’ve transitioned into the foster system,” said Caroline G., NorthCare consumer. “I can’t imagine how much different our journey would have been without [them] (staff name removed). She rocks and has been such an essential part to this process for us.”
NorthCare is a trauma informed agency working with community partners such as Oklahoma Department of Human Services, 2-1-1 Oklahoma, The Employment & Education Ministry, Homeless Alliance, Remerge, United Way of Central Oklahoma, and other organizations to provide services to the families they serve.
“For too many in our community, NorthCare is the first, last and often the only available provider for services that keep families together, bring recovery to addiction, and a path to stability for severe mental illness,” said Patrick Raglow, executive director of Catholic Charities, and Northcare Community Partner. “These desperately needed services are in short supply for those who can afford them; they’re practically nonexistent for those who cannot, except for NorthCare. NorthCare serves those unable to maintain relationships, housing or employment due to unaddressed mental illness or addictions. NorthCare serves at the toughest crisis points of the human condition with world-class professionalism and heaven-class compassion.”
According to the Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) website, OKCPS the Office of School Climate and Student Discipline was created in 2015 to “provide support to students, teachers and administrators in their efforts to increase the amount of time students spend in school versus out of school suspensions.”
OKCPS collaborates with NorthCare to provide wrap-around services enabling OKCPS to serve the whole child.
“NorthCare has been a partner with Oklahoma City Public Schools for over 25 years,” said Dr. Teri Bell, executive Director, OKCPS. “NorthCare is valued for their effective evidence-based interventions for trauma, mental illness and substance use. We are very thankful for their partnership!”
