Position Description:


Provide counseling services that result in symptom reductions, improved self-management, enhanced daily functioning, as demonstrated by outcome measurements in center-based and community-based settings, with a cultural awareness of the diversity of the population of the clients we serve. Clinician will use standardized diagnostic tools for assessments, and provide a summary of symptoms and diagnosis based on the results from using those diagnostic tools. Services performed will include an integrated, culturally competent, biopsychosocial intake, strengths-based assessment and treatment planning, diagnosis, and selection of goal-directed interventions that reflect an evidence-based practice. Clinician will identify individual/families with co-occurring conditions and multiple needs. Clinicians will also be responsible for coordinating referral sources for clients and making appropriate referrals as needed. Crisis intervention services, individual and group counseling, community presentations, trauma informed care, and participation in a treatment team approach may be required according to the needs of the client.

Provides initial screening (phone or in person), intake assessment, and initial treatment planning with persons seeking services that includes gathering of information about the symptoms, behaviors, functioning, history, needs and preferences to assist in the decision-making process about the treatment needs of that person.
Facilitates referral of consumers into the appropriate agency program(s) or to another community provider if appropriate. Obtains the necessary releases and consents and advises the consumers about their rights and responsibilities. Consults with other program staff, as needed, to facilitate referrals.
Provides brief, crisis-resolution focused psychotherapy treatment using agency-approved, evidence-based practices that are consistent with the current treatment plan and with consumer needs and preferences, including Individual Therapy, Couples/Marital Therapy, Family Therapy, and Group Therapy.
Provides initial case management services for clients, assisting them in obtaining needed benefits and resources, including, but not limited to: housing; employment; medical, recreation; social and family supports; nutritional information; medications, and childcare needs.
Demonstrates the capacity for providing evidence-based practice services for exemplifying the values expected within the program and for promoting the mission of the organization.
Provides ongoing counseling and/or therapy to clients as assigned at Sunbeam and/or at community or home-based settings and in compliance with Sunbeam’s culturally competent practice policy.
Prepares within required time frames and within program policy and procedures all required documents completed in such a manner that case records clearly document behaviors, diagnostic evaluations, and relevant interactions from first appointment through termination, including: client gains; client assessments; treatment plans; and such other documentation as required.
Perform all other record keeping and reporting functions as required by program and/or agency policy. Represent the agency in an effective and professional manner so that each community or personal contact understands and appreciates the viability and worthwhileness of agency services.
Work with and coordinate services with referral sources in conjunction with on-going treatment plans.
Completes other assignments as determined by Counseling Department Director.
Maintain continuing education and/or licensure supervision that meets the requirements of state licensing boards.
Performs required duties in a manner that demonstrates compliance with Sunbeam's Culturally Competent Practice Policy.
Complete and maintain all necessary records in a timely manner such that case record reviews will clearly indicate behaviors, diagnostic evaluations, and relevant interactions in each case from initial appointment to termination appointment.
Communicate effectively and professionally with community contacts so that each contact understands and appreciates the viability and worthwhileness of agency services.
Be knowledgeable of agency policies and procedures so that work performance and job responsibilities are completed in compliance with agency policy and procedures. If differences and disputes about agency policies and procedures arise, they are addressed with the Counseling Department Director.
Prepare and/or present written and verbal communications so that other staff members clearly understand therapist’s case assessments, treatment plans, goals, strategies, interventions and theoretical basis.
Provide information and referral to people who inquire about our services and accumulate data so that gaps in community services can be identified.
Maintain professional competency in his/her discipline through appropriate readings, attendance at workshops, and through consultation with other professionals. Employee will comply with all requirements to maintain professional licensure.
Adherence to the agency code of ethics and confidentiality policies while maintaining professional standards at all time.
Therapists are to meet or exceed productivity requirements as established by the Counseling Director.
Therapist may provide some limited home-based services for families that are part of Sunbeam’s Foster Care program.

Position Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

Position requires a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related human services field and licensure in the State Of Oklahoma in one of the mental health disciplines or under board approved supervision for licensure. Prefer licensed LPC, LMFT, LCSW, LBP. A therapist who is under supervision for licensure may be considered, depending on experience. If licensed, employee must complete continuing education requirements required for licensure maintenance. Prefer therapist to have training and experience in working with all ages.


Clearance of background check and drug screen.
A driver’s license and up-to-date insurance on motor vehicle in accordance with state law and agency requirements.
Employee must have education or training in providing services to a culturally diverse population with particular emphasis in serving those clients who are socio-economically disadvantaged.


Prefer licensed by the State of Oklahoma or immediately eligible to be licensed.

Employee must have education and preferably experience in providing individual, family and group therapy. Employee must have a basic understanding of the DSM-5 and its applications. Must also be able to assess clients for psychosocial information and develop this information into a working treatment plan. Must possess ability to document services provided by employee using an electronic health record. Employee will need to possess the ability to work autonomously without constant supervision. Must also be able to demonstrate the use of sound clinical judgment as it pertains to client welfare. Employee must be able to use Microsoft Word computer applications and other applications as required by payor sources.


Employee will use a variety of clinical documents that include, but are not limited to, the following: progress notes to record activity from therapy sessions; psychosocial and various other assessments; treatment plans and closing case summaries. Employee will also have access to a computer workstation. All clinical documentation to be maintained in a case record and electronic health record.

Employee will use documents necessary to request the authorization to provide services.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to sit over long periods of time and be able to talk, hear, sit, stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift and or move items of up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have excellent command of English language and grammar, both verbal and written. Must be able to manually operate and use a computer. Must be able to clearly hear and understand telephone conversations.


Provide therapy in an office or other setting (possibly a school-based or community setting), working in close proximity to client(s), staff, and children. The noise level in the work environment may vary from moderate to loud. Employee may be subject to exposure to strong odors such as poor hygiene.
