New Hope Oklahoma is looking for an outstanding team member to fill the position of Communications and Volunteer Coordinator. This position will work closely with both the Executive Director and the Program Director to fulfill all of New Hope's volunteer, intern, and communications needs. Positive attitude, a concern for children, and a belief in New Hope's mission is required!
This position involves a great deal of contact with other people, so the Communication and Volunteer Coordinator must have excellent interpersonal communication skills. This team member should have a basic, working knowledge of Canva, ConstantContact, and other design and communication-based programs, as well as strong written and oral abilities. Leadership skills are necessary for directing staff and overseeing projects. These workers must also develop research and proofreading skills to ensure all materials are high quality and accurate. Some evenings and weekends will be required as programming and events require.
Recruit Volunteers: When an organization needs new volunteers, the Communications and Volunteer Coordinator uses a variety of methods to attract suitable candidates. The Communications and Volunteer Manager may place advertisements in the newspaper, post volunteer opportunities online or attend job fairs with the hope of meeting new volunteers. Communication and Volunteer Coordinators also interview potential volunteers to determine if they are a good fit for the organization.
Train Volunteers: Once a new volunteer comes on board, it’s the Communication and Volunteer Coordinator’s responsibility to provide comprehensive training. Communication and Volunteer Coordinators often conduct orientation sessions, give new volunteers tours of the building and help new volunteers get settled into their roles. In some cases, the Communication and Volunteer Coordinator also teaches volunteers new skills.
Create Program Reports: Without the right data, it’s difficult to determine if a volunteer program is meeting its goals. Communication and Volunteer Coordinators collect data from volunteers and paid staff members, use the data to create reports and distribute those reports to key personnel in the organization. This may include tracking volunteer/intern hours, providing monthly updates, and other informational data.
Schedule Volunteers: The Communication and Volunteer Coordinator works closely with volunteers to come up with a schedule that works for everyone. If the organization has a special event planned, the Communication and Volunteer Coordinator is also responsible for ensuring the right number of volunteers is available to handle the extra work.
Determine the Need for Volunteers: Some volunteers stay with the same organization for years, but others stop volunteering after just a few months. A Communication and Volunteer Coordinator must be able to anticipate these changes and plan accordingly.
Coordinate Materials Development: The Communications and Volunteer Coordinator works closely with the Executive Director to help prepare marketing and informational material and collateral, include graphic design and content generation.
Distribute Materials: The Communications and Volunteer Coordinator will help distribute information and materials to clients, stakeholders, interested parties, and the general public, helping to develop materials that convey New Hope Oklahoma’s message, policies, activities or position on issues.
