Hero Highlights: Tina Hanna, South Central Industries
Tucked away in Shawnee, OK is a hidden treasure – South Central Industries. Providing services to fifty individuals, this unique human service agency offers vocational training, employment opportunities and housing for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
As one of the programs they offer, South Central Industries operates as a vendor to sell everyday items and products, which provides long-term employment for their clients. These items range from janitorial supplies and personal protection equipment (PPE) to office supplies and food service items. This program, offered through the State Use Program, is operated by the Office of Management and Enterprise Services (OMES). Their agency sells and delivers these products to Oklahoma state agencies, businesses, non-profits, churches and individuals across Oklahoma. Purchasing from SCI is a very easy way for an organization to support a nonprofit – a purchase with a purpose.
Tina Hanna, Executive Director at South Central Industries, started with the organization almost ten years ago. Finding her place there went beyond her greatest expectations. “It was as if I discovered exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up,” Tina shared. She knew she had found her place to serve through meeting the needs of individuals with disabilities in a dignified way. When asked how you do “all the good that you can,” Tina says it comes from her work to improve and brighten possibilities, not only for her clients, but also her staff. “South Central Industries’ motto of growing tomorrow’s opportunities from today’s challenges is something I hold dear to my heart and strive to accomplish in every circumstance I can.”
