Thanksgiving Volunteer Opportunities
OKCNP wanted to be sure there was a way for you to know about Thanksgiving Volunteer Opportunities this weekend and next week. We also want to be sure that our nonprofit organizations know where to refer clients for Thanksgiving meals and resources.
Below are some resources that we know about for the upcoming holiday. If you know of anything, let us know! We will add it to the list.
Vanessa House Beer Company is hosting their inaugural Turkey Drive on November 19. It will be held at Oak & Ore from 11-2. The theme is Super Hero Brunch, so recycle your super hero costumes from Halloween and by showing up in costume you will receive free bacon. The goal is to acquire 20 frozen turkeys to donate to local high school kids whose families need some help this Thanksgiving. If you plan to attend, please make a reservation with Oak & Ore to ensure a spot.
The 10th Annual Turkey Tango provides cooked turkeys for two separate Thanksgiving lunches for the Homeless Alliance’s Westtown Day Shelter on November 22 and for Food and Shelter for Friends in Norman on Thanksgiving Day. Turning the Table on Hunger and The Homeless Alliance pair with Culinary Kitchen who offers their showroom ovens for use, located at 7222 N. Western Ave. Volunteers are needed to help with preparation and can sign up online.
Cookie’s Thanksgiving is hosted annually by Other Options Inc, a local nonprofit feeding a 1,000 in-need individuals on Thanksgiving Day through at-home deliveries and in-house meals at Sunnyside Diner. Sign up to volunteer online.
Jesus House needs volunteers to help with their Thanksgiving Baskets. More information about volunteering can be found online.
MetroFamily Magazine has more opportunities listed to help those in need after Thanksgiving.
