Position Description: *

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Hunger Study Coordinator, data collection volunteers will serve as a vital component of the Hunger in America 2014 research project. The Data Collection Intern will be responsible for scheduling site visits, traveling to partner agencies, conducting on-site client data collection, and providing overall support for the Hunger Study Coordinator. The Hunger in America 2014 research project will be conducted throughout the Regional Food Bank’s 53-county service area from May through August 2013. Because most Data Collection Volunteers are Food Bank staff and board members volunteering their time, the Data Collection Intern will offer a more sustained commitment throughout the duration of the study.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Attend a detailed training session led by the Hunger Study Coordinator
• Contact partner agencies to confirm scheduled visit
• Complete Program Visit Report
• Work with Data Collection Volunteers to ensure a sufficient volunteer schedule
• Travel to agency sites to facilitate client survey data collection
• Set up the survey at the agency sites
• Follow a specific sampling plan to identify client eligibility to participate in the survey
• Interact with clients during the survey process
• Address client and agency staff questions about the Hunger Study and the Client Survey

Position Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• Language Skills - Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, partner agencies, clients, volunteers, and the general public. Should be enthusiastic, flexible, patient, and willing to work with various populations. Ability to fill out appropriate paperwork and report noteworthy events from site visits. Bilingual language skills in Spanish is preferred.
• Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Reasoning Ability - Strong analytical skills required. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Personal Skills - Strong interpersonal skills required. Ability to work and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds. Ability to take initiative and demonstrate leadership experience/skills. Ability to work in a team and within broad coalitions. Must be capable of keeping track of multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Must be highly organized with an ability to pay attention to detail; must be a strategic, creative, progressive thinker. Familiarity with anti-hunger/anti-poverty initiatives is preferred.
• Technical Skills – A considerable understanding of computer software, web-based applications, and tablet orientation are required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be 18 years of age
• 20- 32 hour per week commitment to the project between May and August 2013
o Site visits will vary between 3 and 8 hours each
• Must have reliable transportation or be comfortable using public transportation to get to and from agencies
• Possess strong computer and internet usage skills
• Be able to communicate effectively with diverse populations
• Have an understanding and/or interest in research

Duties:

• Gathers information to update the biographical files of VIPs and members of the International Board of Directors.

• Assists with the copy and dissemination of local and national press releases. Assist in scheduling interviews and public appearances for Sweet Adelines quartets.
• Assists with creating lists of college a cappella organizations and groups, and begin developing a direct email campaign targeting these organizations.
• Assists with membership calls and processes.

Position Qualifications:

Self starter – ability to work well alone and with others.
Strong computer skills are a necessity.
Interested in gaining experience in a non-profit/education setting.
Some education on experience in communications is helpful but not required.

Guthrie Green Summer Intern

Guthrie Green is an urban garden and performance space in The Brady Arts District in
downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma. Accommodating visitors looking for a peaceful escape or family
activities, the park features a fully functional stage, tree-­‐lined paths, water features and a
large lawn.

The George Kaiser Family Foundation (GKFF) is responsible for the planning, construction,
maintenance and programming/operations of the park. The green space in the heart of the Brady Arts District offers concerts, fitness activities, a Sunday market, food truck events, movie nights and more to the Tulsa community. Position Qualifications:

Guthrie Green is seeking two energetic and capable interns who will play an integral role in
organizing and facilitating summer park programming. Interns will work on special projects and
community relations at Guthrie Green for the summer. Interns may also assist in the operations of Fly Loft, a rehearsal space for local performing arts organizations across the street from Guthrie Green.

Tasks will include family event coordination, promotion and marketing, research and design
of educational projects, spearheading a park profile project, and supervision of park activities.
Interns will work together on most projects but will also have opportunities for individual
projects. Candidates with an interest in education, urban planning and community mobilization are encouraged.

Flexible schedule, between 20 and 40 hours per week, some night and weekend work required
8 week internship, dates to be determined, paid $10/hour

Under the supervision of the Urban Harvest Director, the Summer Assistant will be responsible for daily tasks related to the care of garden grounds and growing facilities.

• Performing routine gardening tasks such as the cultivation, seeding, mulching, and weeding of growing areas, as well as pest control and fertilization duties.
• Managing irrigation of growing areas and greenhouse facilities, including hand watering and the operation of drip irrigation systems.
